Earning a pilot's license is something that many people dream of, but few ever accomplish. Those of us who fly airplanes understand how truly fortunate we are. We have freedom that few people can match, and we see views that only the tiniest percent of the human race has ever experienced. Becoming a pilot may just be easier than you think. This three-minute video presentation shows you the exact steps you must take.

Here Are the Tools You Need to Get Started.

Master Your Radios with Audio CDs

Learning to communicate with the radios is one of the first obstacles that student pilots encounter during training. It can be frustrating and intimidating - but it doesn't have to be. Gold Seal's audio course, Squawk VFR, is designed specifically to train pilots in the proper communication techniques. Using actual aviation audio, recorded in flight, you are taught the specifics for each type of airspace.

Clips are played, broken down and discussed, then played again for reinforcement. Squawk VFR is one of the most popular aviation tutorials in the United States. It is ideal for use in the car or in your recliner chair. It couldn't be easier. Just sit back and listen.

Make Good Landings, Consistently!

It is no surprise that student pilots fret endlessly over the quality of their landings. The problems encountered are common to all students and come from a common database of mistakes. Learning to fly, and land, can be mastered. You simply need the right instruction. And that is exactly what Gold Seal offers.

The Art & Science of Better Landings is a complete multimedia system. It clearly lays the landing profile out in a fashion that can be learned, mastered, and reproduced. This one has been so successful that we guarantee you will see improvement in your landings on your very next flight. Are you getting ready to solo? Let The Better Landings system help you reach that milestone sooner.

Attend Ground School on Your Computer

Pilots must learn a lot of material. Fortunately, we have the internet. Gone are the days when a student had to endure dozens of hours with the books and sitting in a formal classroom. Now you can learn everything you need to know without leaving your chair (and no boring DVDs!). Learning to fly has never been more fun.

Gold Seal's Online Ground School provides new-media training. Think about this - videos and DVDs demonstrate. They're 1980s technology, simply spiffed up with flashier graphics. They demonstrate, they don't teach.

On the other hand, Gold Seal's online lessons do teach. Our proprietary methods ensure quick learning in an interactive format. It's all about knowledge transfer - getting the information from us to you as efficiently as possible.

And not only will you learn with less effort, you will save money. Everything you learn on your own is knowledge you won't be paying an instructor to teach you! Gold Seal's Online Ground School can literally save you hundreds of dollars. Listen to this message to discover how easily it works:

Private Pilot Testing

Learning to fly involves a somewhat formal series of flight lessons that are designed to teach you specific skills. The skills are all defined by the FAA and every private pilot undergoes very similar training. While the FAA specifies a minimum of 40 hours to complete the flight training, it is likely that you will spend 55 hours or more preparing for your graduation.

During your flight training, you will learn skills and techniques that tie together to allow you to accomplish explicit goals such as your first solo flight, special maneuvers, and cross-country trips.

In addition to completing your flight training, you must pass two FAA tests in order to receive your pilot license. Both tests are comprehensive. They are not overly difficult but do require some you to study and prepare.

Here is some crucial advice: don't fixate on the tests and don't let them become an obstacle to your success. Begin studying for both exams as soon as you begin flight training. This will help you in two ways:

  • You will have better flight lessons because you have studied the conceptual material. This lets you apply what you've learned from the books in the airplane.

  • You will be less stressed as test time approaches because you will have been preparing well in advance.

The Knowledge Test
- This one is usually referred to as the "written test." It is a computerized multiple choice exam containing 60 questions. You only need to score a 70% to pass, but make it your personal goal to get at least a 90%.

Plan on taking the Knowledge Test early during your training. This will get it out of the way and prevent it from becoming a psychological barrier.

You will study for this test using a variety of sources. We recommend that you use the Gold Seal Online Ground School as your central point for reference. Gold Seal also publishes a two-disk set of audio CDs to help you study while driving in your car.

The Practical Test - This milestone, generally known as the "checkride," is your final exam. When you pass this, you are a fully licensed pilot.

The Practical Test is broken up into two parts: the oral exam and the flight exam. Each part will last between an hour and an hour and a half. Questions in the oral exam will center around actual flight issues, but any subjects from the Knowledge Test are also fair game.

The Gold Seal Online Ground School includes a lesson specifically aimed at preparing you for the Practical Test. Additionally, Gold Seal's Oral Exam Summary audio CD and book will fully prepare you. We recommend that you take advantage of these resources.
